Mid-July in Philadelphia is hotter than blue blazes. So when the humidity climbed to the point where the sky simply couldn’t hold it anymore, the little shower that came down during the ceremony was lowkey a relief. (It was, hands down, my favorite moment to photograph all day.)

And THIS is the part where a Type-A planning team makes all the difference. Before guests filed out of the venue and down the stairs to the outdoor ceremony site, the Blush Bouquet crew wiped down every seat and handed out umbrellas. Not a beat was missed. Kaitlyn and Tony’s Elkins Estate wedding photos stayed as luminous as ever, thanks to a stack of cute clear umbrellas that let the light through instead of blocking it.

So if you’re a couple staring down a 40% chance of rain and spiraling — don’t. Rain softens the light, deepens the greens, and gives you a reason to huddle close. I always come prepared with a backup timeline and portrait plan, and I’ve watched it work at this September wedding at The Willows at Ashcombe and again at Westwynd Gardens in Honey Brook. Wet weather is not the villain of your love story. Promise!

Why These Elkins Estate Wedding Photos Look Like a Gilded-Age Daydream

It helps, of course, to be standing on one of the most beautiful properties in Pennsylvania. The Elkins Estate sprawls across 42 acres of formal gardens, stone terraces, and sweeping lawns, anchored by Elstowe Manor — an 1898 mansion designed by Horace Trumbauer, the same architect behind some of the Gilded Age’s grandest homes. Think: marble columns, hand-painted murals, and staircases built for a grand entrance.

Cultural Traditions And Two Families Becoming One

Tony’s wove his family heritage through the whole celebration and gave the day beautiful personality. From his signature drink of Arak on the rocks (hardcore, btw) to the traditional Zaffa that carried the couple into their reception on a wave of drumming and cheering, to the elaborate baklava tray anchoring the cookie table, to his lively first dance with his mom — every piece of it meant something.

This is what I mean when I say the best details aren’t always decorative. When couples intentionally fold in their cultural traditions, you’re not just watching a pretty reception. You’re watching two families genuinely become one, and that is the thing that makes your photos unforgettable.

A Four Tiered Wedding Cake And A Traditional Cookie Table

As always, Bredenbeck’s Bakery absolutely wowed us with this masterpiece of a wedding cake. Four decadent tiers frosted with delicate blue piping and yellow roses that pulled straight from their summery color palette — the same one that carried through their blooms from NE Flower Boutique.

And then, the cookie table. Kaitlyn and Tony went with a classic spread, and the second I spotted the peanut butter blossoms and mini caramel cheesecakes, I got homesick for Pittsburgh. The cookie table is a Youngstown and Western PA tradition through and through, so seeing it here, right under a huge tray of baklava, was my favorite kind of collision: two families, two hometowns, one very sweet table.
