Over a decade of experience as a Philadelphia wedding photographer has given me a front row seat to all the newest trends sweeping the industry. Some of the most inspired wedding trends take root in artistic, urban settings like Philly’s downtown and Main Line. Here, couples are constantly raising the bar and looking to make their day their own. Right now, a new generation of couples is tying the knot with intention while leaning into experience-driven, deeply personal celebrations. My favorite 2026 wedding trends are equal parts nostalgic and novel.

1. Drapery As Decor
Bold, colorful drapery is one of the most impactful ways to transform a venue space. It lets you section off rooms, build a ceremony backdrop, and basically art-direct your entire wedding without committing to permanent changes. In their writeup of wedding trends for 2026, Studio Gail notes, “In 2026, drapery is the unsung hero of wedding decor.” I could not agree more! Start the conversation with your wedding planner or designer early — this one needs lead time.

Check out how dramatic white drapery transformed this wedding at The Crystal Tea Room in Philadelphia.
2. Unexpected and Bold Color Palettes
Yes, I’ll always have a place in my heart for a classic black and white wedding, but this is a trend that makes me giddy! Embracing nontraditional, colorful palettes feels so right in an era where weddings are more widely replicated than ever. Why copy someone else’s look when you can lean into the colors, textures, and patterns that actually light you up?

Whether it shows up in your wedding party attire or in jaw-dropping floral installations, it’s time to embrace color in all its forms. One of my favorite recent examples: the inclusion of deep red and burgundy as a primary color. See how a black-and-red theme came to life at a vintage Philadelphia venue.
Another favorite: Annelise and Jon worked a pop of bright blue into their fall florals without defaulting to your typical hydrangea. They took a familiar fall palette and made it entirely their own. See it in their Villanova wedding blog.
3. Nontraditional Wedding Venues
Love can’t be contained to a cathedral, ballroom, or manor house, and couples are increasingly leaning into that. Carolyn and Tim said their vows on the patio of a chic restaurant in downtown Philly — and it was exactly right for them. Their Italy-inspired restaurant wedding is a great place to start if you’re thinking outside the traditional venue box.

4. Candid Photo and Video Documentation
One of the more popular 2026 wedding trends I’ve witnessed lately is couples leaning into candid moments and letting guests participate in content creation. Vintage camcorders at wedding receptions have made a serious comeback for this! There’s something irreplaceable about the grainy, imperfect footage a camcorder produces.
5. Nontraditional Wedding Pictures & Photography Styles
In the same vein, couples are favoring new and nontraditional wedding photography styles. I say, bring on the motion blur and polaroids! This nontraditional wedding documentation at Lake House Inn is a great example of this in action.

6. Wedding Content Creators
If you want candid video content without relying on your Aunt Karen’s iPhone, hiring a dedicated wedding content creator is the move. Rather than a shaky cell phone reel, you get polished, intentional short-form video captured by someone who knows what they’re doing. This is one of those welcome 2026 wedding trends that frees up your family and friends to be fully present and enjoy. A genuinely unplugged wedding day is a gift for everyone.
7. Design-Centered Stationery and Signage
For the record, I think my clients have always had their finger on the pulse when it comes to artful wedding stationery, but the shift toward truly art-directed paper goods is exciting to watch. Your stationery is the first peek your guests get at what’s coming and sets the design tone for your day.

Beyond the invite suite, try incorporating:
- coordinating matchbooks or wedding favors
- custom signage that ties back to your color palette
- place cards that double as memorable keepsakes
- printed menus that enhance the guest experience
- ceremony programs that tell the story of your day

8. Wedding Guest Dress Codes
This wedding trend is hotly debated every time it comes up on social media, but I’m firmly in the pro-dress-code camp. Not only does a clear wedding guest dress code help your more indecisive guests, but it’s also a creative extension of your overall theme.

It’s a fun way for guests to show out at your wedding and really get into the overall theme. From a photography perspective, it gives your gallery a cohesion that’s hard to manufacture in post. Your photos will thank you.
9. All Over Lace Fashion Trends
I have to say, Pinterest Predicts was on the money with this 2026 wedding trends prediction last year. All over lace is back, but reimagined! Unique silhouettes, detached sleeves and gloves, and contemporary detailing that feels fresh.
Two of my recent favorites:
- Shannon’s lace trimmed getting ready robe and modern lace dress at this Gardens at Applecross wedding
- B’s long-sleeve lace gown and dramatic lace-trimmed veil for her wedding at The Crystal Tea Room.

And my Bridgerton-loving heart is thrilled to see a revival of the basque waist.

10. Creating Experiences Through Unforgettable Guest Moments
The best weddings are the ones that keep guests fully engaged throughout the day — not just for cocktail hour and the first dance, but through every transition and quiet moment in between. This might look like a surprise musician during dinner, a late-night snack station, a photo activation, or something completely unexpected.

The goal is the same: guests who leave feeling like they actually experienced something, not just attended a reception.
11. Serpentine Tables
The serpentine table moment is well underway, and I am here for every winding, sculptural foot of it! Beyond the visual drama, there’s something genuinely connective about a table that curves. This reception format changes how guests interact with each other in the best way. See how a serpentine layout transformed an Elkins Estate reception.

12. Single-Tier Wedding Cakes
The single-tier wedding cake era is here, and it is fabulous. I’ve seen long rectangle cakes dressed with skinny candles, giant single-tiered rounds piled with berries and cream, heart-shaped confections with an unmistakably vintage feel. It’s a low-key way to make a big statement, and let’s be real, more cake per guest is never a bad thing.

13. Planning a Wedding Weekend
When guests travel to celebrate with you, a single evening rarely feels like enough. The wedding weekend trend is about extending the celebration intentionally — not stuffing the schedule, but curating moments that give people more time together.

Your rehearsal dinner can become “the night before” with dancing, a food truck, a henna party, a backyard bonfire. There’s no prescribed outline for how these events need to look. Make it yours.
A Peek At Wedding Trends Going Into 2027
Ten-plus years of front-row seats to Philadelphia weddings will do something to your eye. It’s clear to me that the thread tying all of these trends together is novelty — and more specifically, the kind of novelty that comes from knowing yourself. The wedding industry has a long memory for recycling ideas, which makes it even more special when a couple shows up and does something that could only be them.
My prediction for 2027 is more personalized curation in place of the traditional.
Food & Dining Trends
Progressive, lounge-style dining is taking the place of formal plated meals. I love seeing tasting menus, chef-led experiences, late-night oyster bars, and global fusion plates becoming mainstays. Receptions will look less like a dinner and more like a restaurant experience designed just for your guests. (The Knot)

Florals & Details
- Elongated stem bouquets are replacing the traditional round posy.
- Meadowcore aesthetics is taking over. Wildflowers, organic arrangements, and natural textures are trending as part of a broader “something old is something new” revival.
- Embroidery is showing up everywhere: on gowns, invitations, table linens, and accessories.

How to Plan The Perfect Wedding in Philadelphia and Beyond
My honest advice? Sit down with your partner and go back to the beginning — how you met, what you love, what makes your relationship yours. Did you bond over Sheetz mac and cheese bites? Serve them at the after-party. Is your hometown where your story started? Hire your favorite local vendors. Let these trends be a starting point, not a checklist. You’ll love your day even more when you can look back and see pieces of your actual life woven into every moment!
